IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR VISA HOLDERS

It has been brought to our attention that some MM2Hers have had to pay fines for overstaying their visa without being aware it had expired.

Although the Malaysia My Second Home programme entitles applicants to a ten year visa this is not given in one go. The initial period will end sometime before your passport validity ends. We are not able to obtain the immigrations department’s policy on this but it will usually end at least two months before your passport expires. You are required to obtain a new passport in sufficient time that you can get the extension put in your new passport before the visa expiration date.

In most cases this will mean applying for a new passport quite a few months before it expires. Failure to do this will mean you have overstayed your visa and if you try to leave the country you will almost certainly have problems. When you do transfer it you will be asked to pay a penalty which could well be in excess of RM1000 per person. Even if the main MM2H visa holders has a valid visa, any dependent who has not extended their visa will still be regarded as being in the country illegally.

Even in cases where it you might think the immigration department have made an error in the expiration date shown in your passport you will still be fined. The rule is check the expiration date written on your MM2H visa in your passport and make sure you extend it or renew the visa (if your five or ten years are up) before that date or you will be in trouble.
