An Explosion of International Schools in Malaysia

In the past 12 years, Malaysia has become an attractive destination for international education.

According to ISC Research (specialised in providing detailed and current information on new and existing international schools worldwide), in the year 2000, there were 26 international schools in Malaysia. Currently, that number has increased to 108 international schools in Malaysia.

Besides expats, a number of wealthy Malaysians are also enrolling their children in internationals schools because of the high quality of education. Another reason is that these schools provide all the necessary facilities with a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Until recently, the government had a restricted quota (40%) to limit the number of Malaysian students at international schools. But the quota was lifted early this year in line with the Government’s Economic Transformation Programme to make Malaysia a regional education hub.
